Subj: Vandoren Reeds: Regulars vs. V-12s
Date: Sun, 11 Jan 1998 17:09:29 -0500

Well, I just got back from my convention in Tampa, and I have a
question. While I was there I purchased a box of V-12 reeds, strength
3.5. When I used them I saw no real difference between them and the
regular Vandorens (though I did get more playable ones per box). I
normally use regular Vandorens with strength 3.5 also. Then, I noticed
a reed strength comparison chart in the catalog of the company from
which I purchased the reeds. It said a regular Vandoren 3.5 was equal
to a V-12 4.

My question is do you think I will see more difference if I try a V-12
4. The 3.5 is working well for me, but I was looking to see if I could
get an even better tone, so I thought the switch might help, or do you
think the 4 would be too hard? I really don't want to blow $20 on a box
to find out, so I thought I'd get some opinions first.

Also, I have to really thank the list because when I was in rehearsals
with the Florida All-State Band the conductor must have used the word
caesura (spelling?) at least 20 times. Without having seen its meaning
on the list I would have had absoulutely no idea what the man was
talking about.
