I have also used the Hite Premier as an inexpensive replacement for the
inadequate and dysfunctional mouthpieces that come stock with student
instruments. I am sure that, given the highly opinionated nature of this
list, that there are those who throw up their hands, aghast with the
horror of this suggestion; I am equally sure that there are many who
will agree. Vive la difference.

This is a $20.00 mouthpiece that can drastically improve a student's
sound and intervalic facility. Students can develop a more consistent
embouchure when they do not have to constantly adjust for the
inadequacies of the mouthpiece, yes?

It may not be that artistic be-all and end-all, but for kids whose
parents are unable (or unwilling) to invest more than this (plus maybe
an extra ten bucks for a Rovner ligature), it ia a real and viable
solution.

Some school districts in our area have told their elementary rental
agents that this is the mouthpiece which must be supplied with whatever
clarinet they rent. If the merchant wants the business, they'll do what
you want.
