I think it may be an 'A' clarinet, because it is just a little larger than
other Bb clarinets I compared it to. It seems to be somewhat old, and the
keys, which look to be nickel plated, are worn and pitted. The mouthpiece
is also a Kohlert, hard rubber I think.

I'd like to know a few things about it (I am a clarinet idiot, but I do
speak saxophone):

1. How can I tell if it is an A clarinet?
2. Were Kohlert clarinets any good?
3. How old is it?
4. What might it cost to overhaul/restore?
5. Does it have any value? Anyone have a vintage sax to trade?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a similar horn, 6 ring Boehm, only the body is plastic (ie doesn't
float) and the bell is wood (ie floats). My guess that it was put together
from two horns. The upper joint states:
V.KOHLERT SONS
MAKERS
GRASLITZ
A
L.P.
and the bell is marked:
V.KOHLERT SONS
MAKERS
GRASLITZ
BOHEMIA
A
I was told by the person I purchased it from that they made a student grade
horn. The location of Bohemia was an independant country fo only a short time
if my memory of history serves me correctly. I also would like to know more
about this brand.
