In a message dated 98-01-10 11:12:53 EST, you write:

<< Why rate players? Everyone has their favorites and preferences in tone,
style, nationality, etc. There are players I don't care for but someone
else likes them, so what? >>

Why? For fun. You said yourself that you talk privately about players, so
why not on the list? The reason I talk so freely (on the list) is because I'm
trying to enjoy myself and get away from the stiff, politically correct
manners we must use in the outside world. Sometimes people don't like my
opinions, but that is life, my friend! The clarinet world is extremely
competitive and is like an olympic event. Today, the psychology is: everyone
should be equal, so nobody's feelings are hurt. We are all special and no
better than anyone else. This may work in another society, but not in the
Western world. Talk to any pro "privately" and see what they think - it's
like a giant game.

I am aware of social situations and use diplomacy as needed. My manners here
are as good as most. Some people do not understand my style writing and
expression, which leads to hostility.

Thanks for listening. I will not respond to this worn out topic again.
