Giorgio (was it?):
Shiffrin was fifth. I have a few of his recordings and find them
passable. Not too expressive and a little stiff. His tone is nice but as
Meyer, no dynamic range. His technique doesn't seem to be up to par with
Meyer, but beats Stolzmans. I rate him as an average player.

I think you may have just hear a few bad recordings--I've heard Shifrin
live. His performance on k622 was fantastic...there were times when I
felt like leaning over to hear him better; not because the orchestra was
drowning him out, but because he really could play quiet.

And then he played the Rossini Varations...plenty of dynamic varition
there, too.

Neither of us may be completely right in this: I've had good experiences
with him (listening wise), and you have had not so good experiences. So I
guess my opinion here has sort of a bias.
