I was told by a Bonade student that Bonade never played recitals, nor
chamber music - only Orchestral. He liked it that way.

Different things appeal to different people. It is quite possible that a
specific artist will never appeal to you. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN THAT.
It is
a tad bit tacky, however, to presume that you know what pros think of one
another.

It is also presumptious to suppose that orchestra players hate their jobs. In
any field there will be some people who don't like their jobs but there
will also
be many who do. If I were a professional clarinettist, I would rather play as
part of a group rather than as a soloist. The interweaving of the various
parts
is glorious. To be a part of that whole is fantastic. Needless to say, I
have
loved playing in the civic bands to which I have belonged.
