Since you are "in the know" on the manufacturers (at least one :-) :

What is the real situation vis-a-vis the african grenadilla (ebony?) that
most horns are made of currently? Is the wood really getting scarce, or
is this simply a "marketing problem?" I ask because I've been hearing
about how the wood is getting scarce since I was in jr. high (20 years
ago), and yet they're still stamping out horns left and right, even
student models, with wood.

You mentioned liking the rosewood. Is rosewood or violet wood in greater
supply? Are they as dense and durable as grenadilla?
