OK no mp problems.
Have you tried wrapping what we call over here "clingfilm" around the
offending pads. I should mention that clingfilm is a cilngy plastic sheeting
used in the kitchen to cover food.

If you do this you will effectively put a new skin on your pads. It's good
as an emergency repair.You can lock the film in place by using superglue.

Your 1010s are about the same age as mine.They made good ones around then so
you're lucky.

Your Buffets are actually a bit old! I've never tried any from that vintage.
