Although there is no such thing as aWiener clarinet and it shares =
basically the same fingering system as a Wurlitzer, there are =
significant differences in sound.The Hammerschmidt (Wiener) clarinet has =
a large bore in contrast to the Wurlitzer and to my mind produces a far =
richer sound.

Even this variation of the "German" clarinet can cause cultural tension =
as Alois Brandhofer found when he moved from Austria to Berlin.Do you =
know his playing by the way -it's superb.

Sorry to have missed you in Saltzburg.Did you see our Ligeti production?
