But in actual fact, this list is not a democracy. It is "owned" by Jim
Fay and Cap Bromley, who have been remarkably tolerant of all sorts of
digressions. On the flute list, off topic posts are met with reminders to
stay on topic, both to the list and apparently to the offenders as well.
Several computer lists that I read have similar if less vigilant "list
moms" who very occasionally intervene. The only people with the authority
to require a change in the course of discussion on this list are the
owners.
