Michael Whight has posted a fascinating comment, and within the
text there is reference to the Wiener clarinet (though it is
possible that the word "Wiener" does not apply to the clarinet,
the sentence can be read either way). Now if that is what you
meant, Michael, I do not know of that term and was always under
the impression that the Austrians played German systems just like
most of the clarinetists in German orchestras. Did I miss something?

I was in Salzburg last summer and peeked into the pit before Magic
Flute began to see what kind of basset horns were being used, but
it was dark and I couldn't really see alot.
