James Galway was principal flute of the Berlin Philharmonic for, I think,
6 years before going solo. I don't recall any information that he ever
played for Vienna. It's interesting about Galway, because I suspect that
many people who wonder why he is so popular are unaware that he rose to
such heights of artistry before moving onto solo work.
