There are several relevant issues in this discussion. There is
discrimination in the Vienna and in other orchestras. Some view this as
unacceptable and some view it as acceptable. Such discrimination may be
legal or not, depending on local or national law. This and similar
discussions can go on and on and on...

What is clear and undeniable is that by excluding a particular group or
groups of people from membership, the Vienna Philharmonic has arbitrarily
excluded half of its potential talent pool. To this extent it has reduced
its potential greatness as a musical organization.

For me, this is the unfortunate side of all forms of arbitrary
discrimination. Why waste musical, artistic, intellectual, athletic talent?
It is time for humankind to move beyond discrimination and bigotry.
