We at Boosey & Hawkes (the publisher, that is, not the instrument manufacturer - Buffet, but we
are related!) are contemplating several new arrangements of some of our copyrights for clarinet
ensemble, probably a quartet of 4 B-flat instruments. We think there is a good market for this
type of repertoire/publication and would welcome any comments from members of the klarinet-
digest on this topic. They would probably be aimed at the middle school to high school and even
university level players. We have a few questions and would welcome any responses from people
with experience teaching or playing in this sort of ensemble.

1. Is this the right level of general difficulty we're aiming at? Or should we consider even
easier arrangements?
2. Is an ensemble of 4-flat instruments the best choice? What about making the 4th part, if not
too difficult, to be played optionally on a bass clarinet? Any other size ensemble?
3. What are some of the most used arrangements already on the market that work well.

Many thanks!
