As you have already guessed forcing the fingers is not the way to go.
Several things will help you. One is to keep the fingers close to the tone
holes at all times (don't let them raise too high). Secondly the MORE
RELAXED you are, the faster you will be able to move your fingers. Maximum
muscle speed is generated by starting in a relaxed position. Too much
tension actually slows the muscle. Finally, be patient with yourself.
Start slowly and repetitively until you are one hundred percent comfortable
with the fingering sequence. Then gradually build up your speed.
