To start off the New Year, I'll pull myself from being a lurker and join in.
Hi. My name's Jason, I am a High School student and currently play Bb
Clarinet and Bass Clarinet.

For the first four brands of mouthpieces, I am sorry, but I have never heard
of them. Probably very professional models. (shrug)

The Selmers and the Vandorens I have heard of and tried. I personally prefer
the Vandoren over the Selmer simply because IMO, it's sound is better with
my Buffet International. (I don't know about other instruments though, and
I've never had good experiences with Selmer products anyway)

I will also admit, I have purchased a discount, dirt-cheap mouthpiece (a
Rico Royal B5) with satisfactory results and currently use that one with my
plastic clarinet.

Regarding Crystal Mouthpieces, I have a friend who used one, a high quality
one too. I am unsure of brand name, but he didn't have much success with it.
I cannot help out for I have not personally tried one before, but seeing my
firends experience, I'd recommend something tried and true.

Actually, I would really like to test the sound of my clarinet with a metal
mouthpiece for clarinet. (Like those for Saxes) I heard they make them for
Jazz musicians, but have never seen any. Is this true or have I just been
listening to hype? It kind of doesn't make sense for clarinets aren't metal
instruments like saxes, but...
