Technically it is not correct to suggest that the Vienna Phil. does
not allow women in its orchestra, though from a practical point of
view that is exactly their position.

After the big brouhaha last year, they took their regular harp player
(who was not a member of the orchestra) and accepted her as such.
So then they sat back and said, "See. We do take women."

But there have been none since that time. Of course we don't really
know what their hiring schedule was, but it is probably correct
to suggest that they are going to fight having women in the
orchestra for years.
