I am not pro, but am currently studying to become so. Although my major
is listed as clarinet performance, it is generally understood between
myself, my professor, and the director of bands, that I am a bass clarinet
major (even though no such thing exists at NMSU ^_^ ).

My preference is the Buffet Prestige Low C model. After that, the Selmer
33 (I think it's the 33) to Eb. Or any Buffet or Selmer predating 1981
that's in good condition. I currently play on a Hite mouthpiece due to
financial constraints (I AM a college student...life on ramen sucks ^_^ ),
but I like the Vandoren B44. I am also looking forward (very much) to
trying out the Clark Fobes Professionals - he's a bassist himself, so I
figure they can't all be bad. ^_^ As for reeds, Marcas for loooong
practice sessions and basic rehearsal, but Vandorens for performance and
the last few rehearsals before the performance.

Can't name them offa the top of my head, but I know that there are plenty.
I don't look into them because of, again, financial constraints, but there
is always a mention of another recording of bass clarinets, C-altos, and
C-basses being mentioned/reviewed/recommended on the Contrabass List. My
suggestion is to join the Cbass list if you wanna keep up with it. You
can do so at www.contrabass.com.
