Ben,

Colour or resonance trills are where you trill between 2 fingerings that
give approximately the same pitch (called "bisbigliano" in Italian). The
best thing I've found is to look for a nearby key that lowers or raises
the pitch as little as possible, but noticeably inflects the sound to
give the effect. For example: for C# over the break, try trilling the
E/B or F/C keys. As for the harmonic sign, it sounds like the composer
wants a very clear, soft sound; I'd probably just compress the
embouchure a bit to compact the tone on this note.
