Of course it's better to take it apart. Because then you wipe it
properly. Or should.
BUT even if you leave it assembled, which I do quite a bit, one has to
make sure that the joints are perfectly dry.
And keep it greased. You might find to your dismay that it can get
stuck.
As far as corks, keeping assembled didn't do anything terrible for my
horns.

I was really going to tell of a story I heard of a boy who had the
clarinet assembled near the bed, so that when he got up in the morning
he could practice right away.
There is some merit to the idea. Your lips are fresh, you are relaxed.

The name of the boy was Emilio Iaucurto. Those were his orders- practice
first thing in the morning. It must have been good for him because he
turned out to be a wonderful clarinet player.
He was only 11 when he started. He won competitions and played gigs.
Eventually he got into the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. in 1963. Became
principal of the Orchestra in 1974.
I phoned my friend, Paul Globus in Montreal, to verify the assembly part
of the story, when I was saddened to hear from Paul that Emilio passed
away on December 19 from a pulmonary ailment. He was only 61.
He was well known for his solos in the Orchestra in the numerous
recordings made by the Montreal Symphony under Charles Dutoit.
All those who knew him will miss him.
