A repair tech I used some time ago told me that the DampIts (and other
variations thereon) were *too* "wet" or damp, and tended to rust springs.
He recommended orange peels, which I use regularly in the winter. They
work great, make your case smell nice (if you like the smell of orange),
and come with a good piece of fruit in the middle!!
