Karl may not have had a negative experience yet....and may never.
However, I had a Buffet R-13 crack at 3 months old....I believe the reason
was because I had left it sitting on the peg. Bill Brannen, who had
worked on the horn, told me that the moisture in the upper joint has
nowhere to go when the barrel is left on it.....enormous pressure is
placed upon that upper joint and cracks are predictable. If you leave the
horn on the peg, at least remove the barrel and mouthpiece and set them on
a nearby table......
