All:

What are your main reasons for shying away from leaving the
instrument assembled, standing on the peg, between practice
sessions (swabbing out thoroughly after playing, of course)?
The main ones which come to mind are:

1) Compression of corks

2) Accumulation of sedentary moisture at the junctures between
joints, which could (theoretically) cause premature break-down
or cracking of the wood at the joint (swabbing out the clarinet
in assembled form does not solve this)

3) The possibility of bumping into the instrument and damaging
it as it stands on its peg

Are the above reasons valid? Are there further points in conflict
with leaving the instrument assembed between sessions? Are there
*advantages* to leaving the instrument assembled bewteen sessions
-- BEYOND the convenience of not having to reassemble it the next
time you play?
