And David, I think you will agree that it takes a lot of time to really
get used to any instrument, though one which is deficient in intonation
is going to be out of the running before one begins. But my experience
with Wurlitzers were that they were spot on pitch for every note of
the scale. It was like driving a Mercedes, and the price was about
the same too.

Another factor is that when one tries out a lot of clarinets at any one
time, perspective is lost. I was once a judge at the International
Clarinet Clinic and after the first 10 players, I could no longer hear.
So if the Wurlitzers were mixed in with the 20 Buffets, Yamahas, and
Selmers (and I presume LeBlanc's too, since that is what you eventually
bought) then you were not in a good position to be as critical a judge
as you would have been under other circumstances.
