I, and many others on the list, are active professionals, supporting
ourselves through performance and pedagogy of clarinet. We don't speak
for you, so do not presume to speak for us. We are not "arm chair"
clarinetists. Ricardo may have the highest-paid gig in the country,
but he's still plugging away like the rest of us, subject to the same
influences that we are, which shape the musical world and affect our
prospects for survival within our art. To further my point, my personal
experience with Ricardo leads me to believe that he would be the last
person ever to suggest that his "position" affords him any luxuries or
privileges when it comes to musical integrity and professionalism.
Quite the opposite, in fact.
