Quite honestly, I've noticed that some patches alter my tone. I'm not sure
what brand they were, but they were black and thick. Tone is also affected by
what the teeth pressure is on the top of the mouthpiece. Honestly! The thin
ones let my teeth come closest to the mouthpiece, bringing on a more natural
tone.
I realize that I run the risk of being flamed, but I noticed this difference
with me, and my teaher will agree!
