1) Thanks to all who so generously responded to my request for advice on
metronomes.

2) I recently got a CD of Emma Johnson doing the Weber Concertos,
Concertino, and Grand Duo Concertant, and have been enjoying it very
much. Does anyone know anything about her? She looks like she's about
20 in the picture they provide. Lot's of spunk and energy in her
playing, although the recording conditions are obviously different in
the different pieces.

3) Utterly non-clarinet, but there are a lot of knowledgeable musicians
out there to take advantage of: Beethoven's 7th symphony is, I believe,
in G major, considered a great key for strings because there are so many
open notes (or whatever they call it), where the left hand doesn't touch
the strings. My question is: if that's the case, then how do they make
a vibrato? There must be a lot of held notes with no vibrato that way,
no?

4) Finally, I can't resist saying how much I enjoyed hearing Larry
Combs do the Brahms Sonata No. 1 with the CSO the other night. Berio
made an orchestral transcription which was just gorgeous and rich (and
his thing on Schubert's symphonic fragments was just as wonderful). I'm
glad scruples didn't keep me from taping it.
