I found patches felt MUCH more comfortable. As a result, it made it easier
for me to maintain a good embouchure, which enhanced my tone. I think I
actually changed the shape inside my mouth (slightly) and also slightly
lessened the pressure of my 'bite'. So while patches helped me improve my
tone, I guess for some people, the effect may be opposite.
