This stuff didn't use to be a problem. I joined the list in '94 and
the nature of conversations have changed. Some of it is that the list
has grown larger and a number of confrontational people have become
active. I'm not going to point any fingers at anyone and I don't think
that any particular names come to my mind. Used to be that Dan Lessons
was the biggest devil's advocate (not saying that you have lost your
touch Dan) on the list but he is objective and very knowledgeable so
there wasn't any problem. I was very upset when things had gotten so bad
that Dan left the list for a time. I think what seems to be missing
that used to be here is a sence of respect. I will be the first to say
that I'm just a college student
and I'm here to learn and if I can add
a viewpoint to the list than so be it. I am by no means an expert.
The names of the active members has changed. We hear less from
Jonathan Cohler, Dan P., Greg Smith (don't know if he is among us still),
along with a couple others that excape my mind. There isn't a problem
with the list evolving but there is a problem when respect is lost between
members. Reality should hit here sometime where college students add
something good to discussions but don't seem to know it all......professors
and the most experienced people are respected and deal with topics
in a professional manner and this should be a form that anyone from the
most experienced to the total novice can ask a question and not get
ridiculed. I hope I haven't been part of the problem myself and I
apologize if I have. (is Robert Spring still here....always a great
viewpoint) I'm going to get off my box now....flame me if you will
because I believe in this.....I can take it.
