Klarinet Archive - Posting 000630.txt from 1997/12

I am an ardent reader of Klarinet and receive it in digest format.
I wish to raise two questions regarding two practices of many members.
The first practice I wish to question is the facility with which members =
use "cut and paste" in their responses to others. In the klarinet-digest
#503, I counted OVER 300 lines of text (yes, some were blank) which were
cut and pastes...
Would it be possible for members to be a bit more selective in the use of=
this means of citing references - that is, to cite the originator and to
cut and paste SOLELY relevent text? (rather than the entire text?) =
That would free up a lot of space for more productive forms of
communication between members.
The second practice is the use of excessively lengthy footers to messages=
- this, too, uses up a lot of turf which could be better used in
meaningful discussion. Many e-mail programs allow this to be suppressed
by one mouse click in the appropriate place. (Yes, I know that there wer=
e
no such instances of this in #503)
I hope that these suggestions will be taken constructively in the spirit
of improving the forum as they are meant to be.
Louis
