The Gervase De Peyer thread got into the subject of dental problems
and someone mentioned pending wisdom tooth extraction and asked for
feedback. I have a short anecdote to share on the subject.

About 20 years ago while playing in one of the U.S. Army bands I
had a lot of pain and discomfort from my wisdom teeth. The Army
dental clinic did a fine job of removing the teeth, and I was off
the horn for a couple of weeks. Once I got back in shape I found
the only thing I had lost was the discomfort. Since then I've done
lots of playing on a regular basis and I've had no further dental
difficulties that bothered my playing (knock wood).

On the one hand, based on my experience, if your wisdom teeth
are giving you problems, take a couple of weeks off and get rid
of them. On the other hand, I would be very concerned about any
kind of dental work in or near the embouchure zone.
