I think different individuals react with metals differently. I know the
nickel keys on my Selmer look like heck all the time. Sounds like a
similar problem to what you have. Silver will probably be better, but gold
is almost sure to be the best to solve it. Silver plating also tends to be
less slippery than nickel, giving your fingers a better grip. That alone
could be reason enough to go for it.
