basset clarinets. I thought that a basset was merely a clarinet in the
key of F. Now I see discussion of a piece that is written for a basset
clarinet in B flat. What is the difference, guys, between a basset
clarinet in B flat and a bass clarinet? >

Sarah,

From my understanding of basset clarinets (not basset horns, basset
clarinets), in Bb, the differences between those and Bass clarinets is one
octave. A basset clarinet from what I know is a bass clarinet to low C
pitched an octave above.
