First name that comes to mind is Woody Allen ( although I don't know
how far he studied, but he supposedly played in a Dixieland band??)

David Sanborn started off as a clarinetist ( he even said he has a
crooked embouchure from practicing clarinet with the music on the
bed)

There was someone else I heard of recently....... I'll remember it
..... one day............
