My student has an Artley, and I have noticed the intonation problem
(though I'm still not sure how much is from the instrument and how much
stems from the fact that she has braces and can't support some notes as
well.). As I don't think her family is in a position to buy a new
instrument, I've just been working with what we have! Occassionally, I
will switch mouthpieces and exchange instruments with her so I can get an
idea of what she has to deal with and she can get some experience on a
"better" instrument. I feel that she'll be able to learn how to PLAY on the
Artley, but she may have to work harder than she has to!
