I'm one of those people too who don't care for de Peyer's
playing. Years ago, I bought a CD of him playing the Brahms
sonata's, and it almost turned me off clarinet! Fortunately, a
friend let me borrow their old vinyl recording of Harold Wright
playing the sonatas - what a beautiful relief!

That is the only recording of de Peyer I own, and the only thing
I've heard him play. Based on it I didn't want to spend another
penny on his recordings, but it could be I'm being too hard on
him.

The only time I've played that CD since was simply to get an
idea of tempi - I own a few different recordings, and when
debating with my accompanist over things like tempi, it's
sometimes good to listen to a variety of recordings to see what
others have done, and to help you decide what your personal
preference is.
