Hi! I have been playing clarinet for over 20 years now and have always
played a Buffet R-13 but I tried a bunch of different Leblancs and fell
in love with a Concerto. Here is the problem. I really don't have
voicing problems on my Buffet but I have found with the Concerto that in
the clarion G-C, I am having an extremely difficult time playing pp and
maintaining the pitch without falling to the lower hum. I have tried
harmonic exercises and can go up ok but can't get the middle one going
down. I have no problems at all on my Buffet. There is student here
who also is having these same problems but she has had her Concerto for
awhile. So, what do we do differently on the Leblanc that we don't do
on the Buffet? I have managed to figure something out but it is not
very comfortable. If I constrict the throat, raise the back of the
tongue very high and push it forward, it works but the sound is not
controllable. Our instructor is also wondering what the deal is. BTW,
he's a Buffet man! LOL Ayy suggestions to why this might be happening?
