I would have to side with those who detest his playing. Perhaps, detest
is too strong of a word, but I do use his recording of the Weber _First
Concerto_ and the Spohr #1 as an example for my Clarinet Techniques course
of the unfocused tone quality that can be heard in some clarinetist's
playing.
I also remember his comments at the ICA convention in Toronto
about those "silly Americans and their questions about vibrato." It might
be worth the price of admission to hear the other performers on the
concert, but, personally, wouldn't spend a dime to hear de Peyer play.
