Subj: Not clack clack but wobble wobble
Date: Wed, 3 Dec 1997 13:06:03 -0500

The thumb ring on my 20+ year old B&H Emperor has developed a bad case
of the wobbles.

It looks like the hole in the hinge part of the key has become flared at
both ends. There is also a 0.5 mm or so gap between the end of the
hinge tube and the pin. As a result there is so much movement of the
ring key relative to the hinge pin that at times the ring binds on the
thumb hole tube. It feels uncomfortable and there can be an irritating
fraction of a beat delay in releasing the pad immediately above the LH
index finger hole. It took me a long time to find the problem - I
thought the pad was sticking in the hole until I idly twanged a few keys
during a vast number of bars rest one day.

Can one of the repair experts on the list please tell me if this is
fixable and if so how?

Many thanks,

Stephen Randall
