I did state previously that angle has nothing to do with intonation.
This needs a HAIR more clarification.

Oft-times on clarinet, when players find some notes/registers a bit out of
tune, and have trouble diagnosing the problem, they often find that
pulling the clarinet towards them helps. So on clarinet, yes, it can make
a difference. What I should have have said was that on bass, it
shouldn't. Here's why:

Tuning and intonation improvement due to the pulling in of the clarinet is
not ACTUALLY a result of angle change. What actually happens is the
player has put a bit more reed into the mouth without taking in more mouth
piece. With more reed vibrating in the mouth, the tuning improves. The
way to utilize this technique on the bass, should you need to, is not to
adjust the angle of the mouthpiece, but to move the jaw forward slightly
while leaving your upper teeth stationary to keep the same amount of
mouthpiece in the mouth. Don't move the jaw very much. A fraction of an
inch is really all you usually need to adjust tuning in the clarion
register (usually is the key word here). If you keep the corners of the
mouth forward and play with firm air support, this technique should work
quite nicely in place of sittin' funky and stuff...
