I do, but only to see if the reed is sealed. I find the reed plays better
for me if the air pockets are all gone, and the only way I know of
checking that is to blow through it. However, I stroke firmly across the
reed, pressing it to a piece of glass to get all the air pockets and water
out, and let it dry completely...I've yet to have problems with reeds
dying (except with ones that were soft to begin with).
