The US Copyright Revision in 1976 among other things brought the US length
of copyrights in line with the Euopean, as defined by the Berne Convention
of 1971. I am unaware that Europe has increased the length of copyrights in
general. The GATT Treaty of 1994 (1996-1997 edition) still refers to the
Berne Convention.

There are bills in the House and Senate (HR604/S505) that propose changing
the length of time from Life plus 50 years to Life plus 70 (sounds like a
prison sentence). The House bill is in subcommittee, the senate bill seems
to be stalled at present.
