We've been having a really interesting discussion about all of the different
reed types. While I currently use Vandoren V12 3's (weaker strength because
my crystal mouthpiece has about twice the blowing resistance of a hard rubber
one), I find that they rarely play up to my satisfaction just out of the box.
I usually sand quite a bit of cane off the back and a little off the front
sides before I get the sound I'm looking for. That's all fine, no problem
there. My question to you all is, I'm interested in buying some cane (I
think Woodwind & Brasswind sells it directly) and trying to fashion it into
something at least remotely resembling a reed <g>. What kind of books are
out there dealing with this, and what would you recommend? Thanks for your
input.
