If only for the purpose of confirming that Vandorens are the best
reed for you (compared to the other available brands) I'd go ahead
and do some sample tests. I've discovered that Vandorens really
are the best reeds for me, despite the potential I saw in Zondas
and Rico Grand Concerts. I also fussed a little with Queens and
Mitchell Luries and Alexander Superials and Australians, etc. In
all cases, there was an element of resonance and register consistency
which only Vandoren was able to satisfy. I've always complained
about the "one good reed in a box" phenomenon, but after conducting
multiple comparisons, I discovered that 1 good Vandoren reed is
better than the best of any other brand. It's a very personal
matter, and conducting a comparison with other brands will, at
the very least, justify your loyalty to what currently works for
you. It can be costly, but that's the nature of the business.
We must strive ceaselessly to find the best combinations of
equipment and accessories to maximize our potentials as clarinists
and musicians -- understanding first, of course, that any degree
of success is contingent upon consistent and proper practice.

Best of luck to you,
Neil
