The strange name?!? Rico reeds... the regular Rico-type reeds. One of
the $1.25 reeds from Rico. No fancy name, just a regular Rico reed.

Okay, now that we have that established, this is my problem with them.
Because of the variable climate here, Rico reeds soon become paper thin.
They are excellent for loudness and clarity of tone... for about 3 days.
After that, they are completely useless. Here in New Mexico, they are a
dime a dozen... and this is not a figure of speech! That's how highly
regarded they are. I have even tried Rico Royals... don't even touch
Vandoren V12's, Mitchell Luries, or even Marca's. But I have not yet
tried the Rico Grand Concert reeds. And the reason I have not is because
of the past experience I have had with Rico reeds. In my hometown of
Alamogordo, very people used Rico reeds of any kind during concert
season (we had no way of getting Rico Grand Concert reeds, please note
this!!), because of the way they played. They were excellent on the
football field, but sitting down, no way! Too loud, too flat, too soft!

I will hopefully soon be able to test some Rico GC reeds, if I can get
some. I have heard many good things about Rico GC reeds, at least since I
joined the ML (but in Alamogordo, we are secluded from the rest of the
world...). Other Rico reeds, however, are useless to me and to many
players I know of that live here in New Mexico.
