Hello Folks,

Put this date on your calendar. Saturday, December 6th. The Metropolitan
Opera will be making its first broadcast of the season. . .Mozart's "La
Clemenza di Tito." I just saw it yesterday. It was one of the finest Mozart
performances I have ever heard. Superb cast and (as usual) incomparable
orchestra. Levine conducting.

As some of you know, La Clemeza has two enormous solos which were written for
Anton Stadler. The clarinet solo in the first act was played by Ricardo
Morales. I can't say anything about the way he played except that you must
hear it for yourself. I was in awe. Plus Anne Sophie van Otter was singing
the aria with Ricardo. I am not certain that he will play the broadcast
performance, but it's very likely. The bassett horn solo in the second act
was played by Jim Ognibene, who is also the bass clarinetist at the Met.
Superb playing. Very difficult bassett writing. . .skips around a lot. Carol
Vaness was the Soprano.

I recommend you all tape it (don't tell anyone, it's illegal) and listen to
it many times. I know I will. Wow.
