Subj: Pops piece needed!
Date: Fri, 21 Nov 1997 08:15:45 -0500

Hello All,

I would appreciate suggestions on a piece to play for an upcoming Pops
concert. Here are the criteria for the piece:

* 5 to 10 minutes
* For solo clarinet and symphony orchestra
* Jazzy or "big-bandish" or "Klezmerish" or generally popular
* Not the Artie Shaw Concerto (which I already played with this
orchestra)
* Like the Artie Shaw Concerto in its ability to get people on
their feet!

Some of the things I pulled off of Mark C.'s database are listed below, but
I don't know anything about these. Any descriptions or help would be most
appreciated. Please tell me how good these pieces are in terms of audience
effectiveness especially. And more suggestions would be greatly
appreciated!

1. Clarinet Candy by Leroy Anderson (two clarinets & orchestra)
2. Jazz Suite by David Baker (clarinet & orchestra)
3. Klezmer Dances by Robert Maderich (clarinet, violin & orchestra)
4. Memories of You by Eubie Blake (clarinet & big band)

The big band combination could be a problem, because the orchestar is a
normal symphony orchestra and not a big band.

Thanks ahead of time for your responses!
