Well, I don't want to jump into this one again (at least not too far), but
the instruments all had better have the same tapers in the bore, the same
undercutting, the same placement of tone holes, etc.....or else the
comparison is not one that supports a materials argument. I will say that
the metal Vito clarinets I tried (they still had some at U-M in a
closet...used to use them in marching band!), played significantly
differently than their plastic counterparts...and Leblanc was saying that
the only difference was the material the horns were made out of. So....
what can we conclude? I'm not sure, frankly.
