Well, it has been many years since I played on anything but wood,
but at the time I had a plastic clarinet and a metal one, I was
unable to distinguish any appreciable difference. That means
nothing of course/. One's ears are not reliable enough for
measurements this refined. But since you asked I answered.

And I also add that in a previous discussion of metal clarinets,
the first clarinet in the Boston Symphony about 75 years ago played
on a metal instrument, and many of the members of this list still
have excellent ones. They are also made out of bamboo (which I
have not played) and glass, too.
