Again... I'm not "looking down" on the medium. I simply don't like it. I
recognize that it is a major medium of performance and often the only medium of
performance available to younger students.

Here's a hypothetical situation that may act as a for instance...

I may not like Stravnisky's music all that much, but I recognize the
contribution that he made to contemporary music and I certainly respect the
hell out of him. Just because I don't like his music doesn't mean that I don't
recognize his genius, contributions and his importance.

On the concert band thingy.... I don't care to listen to concert bands but as I
said.... I encourage all of my students to play in one, I work with two
directors on improving their wind ensembles and hey.... I was grateful to play
in one when I was younger because we didn't have an orchestra.

So no, I'm not looking down on it, but if I have my choice... I prefer 10 to 1
to listen to an orchestra.
